Movement
2004 - Cotton fabric formed into a permanent shape with hardened sugar, dress, table and armchair. 5 glass drops on stems. Book of Alice Through the Looking Glass. Lighting.
The installation was suspended upside down at average room height. It was lit internally by two bulbs. The 5 glass drops hung in front of the installation at various eye levels. The glass acted like the lenses in your eyes and flipped the image right way up. By looking through the glass drops the viewer is given a magical feeling of a view into another world. The book is laid open at the last page on the floor beneath the installation. Viewers have to crouch down to read it. For anyone viewing the installation through the glass drops, the reader (who is really in the same world) will appear upside-down. The page contains a poem and an editor’s note explaining that there is a second meaning in the poem. The Thinking Room
